The Horn of Africa is in crisis. This is the strong impression we get from a series of dramatic photos published today by The Guardian, which show the devastating human impact drought is having on lives in Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia.
We see pastoralists standing over their dead livestock, children sick from malnourishment, hordes coming from miles to collect water from drying wells, migrants queuing up to enter already over-populated refugee camps. The situation is truly critical and requires immediate international attention, urge the FAO, Oxfam, and World Food Programme in a joint statement today.
Many charities have launched appeals including the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), Save the Children, Christian Aid, Tearfund, the Red Cross, ActionAid, Care International and the International Rescue Committee.
